Abstract

The chassis structures are vital for any automobile which provides structural rigidity and supports various other parts like suspensions, leaf springs, etc. The current research is intended to optimize the cross-sectional geometry of transverse members in heavy motor vehicle chassis frames. The design points generated using the optimization technique are tested using FEA. The stresses, deformation, and mass at these design points are evaluated. The optimization is performed using the optimal space-filling method. The research findings by various scholars have shown that by changing geometric design and dimensions of transverse members of chassis significant improvement in strength to weight ratio can be achieved.
