Abstract

In both developed and developing countries, plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) are increasingly gaining the attention of the road transport sector as an alternative to traditional vehicles associated with internal combustion engines. PEVs help to develop the sustainable road transport system without green house gas emission and free of noise. As the number of PEVs grows in the private and public transport sectors, the charging infrastructure for it is developed in the existing power distribution system. The increased number of PEVs charging serves as an additional load to the existing distribution network and it produces the impacts on system voltage, reliability, power quality and other operational factors of the distribution network. This paper presents a review of mitigation of impacts in distribution network by PEVs charging through optimization approaches. The aim of this analysis is to present a broad study on PEVs charging and its impacts and mitigation on bus voltage stability, transmission losses and peak load management to researchers, designers and engineers working in the distribution network. More academic publications have been critically reviewed on the optimization approaches to this subject of charging PEVs.
