Design and Implementation of Single-Phase PV Power System

Abstract

The Solar energy is greatest widespread between the other renewable energy sources. It is hygienic, abundant and free in environment. It is continuously vary, where the generated output power of the generated voltage of photovoltaic unit (PV) is varied directly due to varying in the value of temperature as well as the strength of solar emission of solar cells. The voltage supplied to the consumer should have a constant magnitude and frequency. It can be accomplished by regulation the output voltage of DC-DC boost converters to obtain a maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The inverter circuits is employed to attain the required voltage and frequency. This paper aimed to reduce construction costs while improving machine performance, durability, and modularity. As a result, it is critical to design a low-cost, high-efficiency PV power circuit. ARDUINO UNO is used to produce and provide pulse width modulated signals to power gates of IGBTs in inverter and boost circuits to achieve this goal. Perturbation and observation  (P&O) process is used in conjunction with the boost converter to provide MPPT and increase energy conversion performance. The P&O approach is intended to enhance the performance of H-Bridge inverter with a solar system. The proposed system is modeled and simulated using MATLAB program to generate output AC power with fewer harmonics, simpler design and less cost. Simulation results show that the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the AC voltage and current waveforms with resistive load is 1.53%. To validate the accuracy of the suggested system, a complete practical prototype is built for this purpose. The power PV system is built and modeled by MATLAB program and implemented practically according to the materials available in the laboratory without any filters. The THD of the output voltage and current was 5% and 9%, respectively. While practically, it was 3% and 6%, respectively.
