Abstract

Research laboratory buildings are among the important spaces which have several considerations must be taken into account when designing them. This is due to their importance as they are the ideal environment for producing accurateresearch studies, which require achieving a suitable space for the research activities that areconducted in these laboratories. The main objective of this research paper was to create a design approach to improve the energy performance of research laboratory buildings in Cairo by treating the building envelope of the typical model. This was by using the simulation program (Design Builder v.6) to make measurements, explore the energy consumption rate of the typical model of research laboratory buildings, and compare the results with the base case after applying the suggested treatments for the building envelope. The results indicated that the applied treatments, according to the modified suggested approach for the building envelope, contributeinsaving energy of more than 11% compared to the base case of the typical models.
