Abstract

An elliptical patch antenna that has quad-band frequencies operation is designed in this paper. The antenna operates in quad-band(5.1-7.5) GHz, (9.4-12.2) GHz, (14.5-18.8) GHz, and (20.3-26.4) GHz. Antenna gain varies from 2 dBi to 5.7 dBiwith a voltage standing wave (VSWR) less than 2.We usedcomputer simulation technology (CST) to design the quad-band antenna and produce simulation results, whilst a vector network analyzer (VNA) produces the practical results. The antenna intended for fixed satellite, mobile, radiolocation, amateur Satellite, and earth exploration satellite. The feed line is modified to improve impedance matching and better group delay characteristics. Antenna dimensions are (19 x 23 x 1.6) mm3, smaller than most of the other microstrip antennas. We manufactured the antenna on an FR-4 substrate with a relative dielectric constant (εr= 4.3) and loss tangent (tan δ= 0.025). A reasonable agreement was noted between the practical and simulation results.
