Abstract

The increase in global energy demands, negative environmental change, and greenhouse effects are the essential factors in the current days. However, renewable energy sources which could mitigate all the above. This paper presents the Iraqi electric energy sector difficulties, supportive tariff rates, reducing the CO2 emission, Types of renewable energy investment in Iraq, solar PV developments, government support initiatives, and policies. The capacity of the government solar energy projects announced in Iraq is 1395kW. This paper also presents the investment in current and future renewable energy to 2030 in Iraq, where the Iraq government plans to generate about 5% of the total generation capacity using renewable energy by 2030, but in comparison with the plans of neighbor countries, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, Iraq are the least ambitious in this field.
