Synesthesia and Its Implications on Video Game Design

Abstract

This essay deals with the study on synesthesia based on neurology, psychology and art. With the development of digital media technology, synesthesia can be applied in many kinds of forms. Some examples of using the concept of synesthesia to design video games will be given to demonstrate how game designers can benefit from studies on synesthesia. Furthermore, synesthesia’s implications on game interactive elements, narrative and naming, immersion and interactivity will be discussed.
